It is so strange for people to think the shrinking economy of the developed cannot affect the raw material reliable economy like ours. For those countries to produce they buy material resources from us, but now there is no capital to do so.

For a reasonable trade unionist in a production firm the move should be how you retain my job than not to have a job. This must be informed by robust debates at the factory floor than to be driven by emotions that will ultimately result in the loss of many jobs.

People need to understand the dynamics of the markets and their influence on the world economy. This is not just an issue of bargaining for no purpose, it is equally important to note that the once you drown all you money into salaries and you are driving the state to a level wherein will be expected to borrow from the IMF to sustain its existence.

Then in that way you are further putting pressure on the exploitation of the resources to cover up for the borrowing effects. The buyers of our resources will be quite aware of the deficiet and will try to manipulate the selling price of your resources. Follow the history of how most African countries that had resources ended up trading them to deal with their cashtrapped situations.

Be careful and be prudent when dealing with the outside world. No emotions but economics.

3. The CNC also had a critical look at the party itself and identified a number of issues that limited the party's performance in the elections. Apart from limited time, limited resources, the newness of the party and a limited number of trained party agents, some of the decisions and debates raised by the party did not as si st in it's efforts. These weaknesses will be corrected and in preparation for the next elections the focus of the party will be on setting up branches, regions and provinces, elected by the members and holding an elective conference as soon as structures are ready for it. The meeting noted hat despite everything thrown at it by the ruling party, COPE had not crumbled, as other parties have. It now has a solid base to build on for 2 0 1 1 and 2 0 1 4. The meeting noted the support of the 1,3 million voters who supported them and thanks these citizens for putting their
trust in COPE. The party discussed in depth how to position itself as an effective, vibrant opposition and ensures voters that it will not let them down.

4. The CNC also appointed the first deputy President Mbhazima Shilowa

MP as Chief Whip in Parliament and Julie Killian MP and Lolo Mashiani
MP as whips in the National As sembly. Dennis Bloem MP was appointed as whip in the NCOP. Mampi Ramotsomai MP was appointed the Chair of Caucus. In all provinces candidate Premiers will lead the party, as
does the candidate president, Dr. Mvume Dandala in Parliament.

5. The CNC also filled the following vacancies;

CWC-Head of Elections, Simon Grondrod and Head of Sectors, Nolitha

Vukuza MP.

CNC-Louisa Mojela, Sello Moloto MPL, Casca Mokitlane MPL and Thami

Ngwevela.

May ,23 2 0 0 9
The CNC of COPE met on the 22 May 2 0 0 9. Among the issues discussed and resolved were the following;

1. A political overview was given by the President, highlighting a number of issues, including the observation and analys8is of the new, disturbing culture of intimidation and violence that characterises the ruling party. Once the party of liberation, this same organisation has now become one that resembles the former authoritarian apartheid regime. This was the basic motivation for forming COPE. COPE arose out of the need to arrest the decline and degradation of the democratic project in our country. In addition to the use of violence, mainly against COPE members, the ruling party has also shamelessly used and abused state resources. It denies opposition parties access to venues, it threatens citizens with the withdrawal of grants and services, it bribes citizens with handouts of food, money and alcohol and even attempted to infiltrate the IEC to place its members in there,
presumably to interfere with its independence. As much as the recent elections were pronounced to be relatively peaceful, free and fair, COPE is committed to ensuring the next elections are actually peaceful, free and fair.

The meeting was seized with the task of how to counter this new, peculiar culture that has and will further weaken our democracy if it continues and prevails. It was noted that this culture had developed out of the ruling party no longer prioritising the interests of the people and working to solve the problems of the people, but being overcome by corruption, nepotism and patronage.

2. The meeting also discussed the ongoing purges of those identified as COPE members or sympathisers in government and other institutions.
COPE is determined to defend these people as part of its commitment to defend our democracy, our Constitution and the rule of law. The ongoing thuggery, such as seen at UNISA directed against Dr. Pityana, was condemned. COPE intends taking this issue up with the Minister for Higher Education, who should be defending Dr. Pityana, but who has
been unusually silent on this issue. Dr. Pityana is not a member of OPE, but even if he were, it is his right to be a member and should have no consequences for his continued employment. Neither should any public servant or any worker fear losing their job by simply joining or supporting COPE. All of these instances of abuse of power and victimisation will be vigorously defended.

3. The CNC also had a critical look at the party itself and identified a number of issues that limited the party's performance in the
elections. Apart from limited time, limited resources, the newness of the party and a limited number of trained party agents, some of the decisions and debates raised by the party did not as*si*st in it's efforts. These weaknesses will be corrected and in preparation for the next elections the focus of the party will be on setting up branches, regions and prov

This worked for the Bus Drivers. The question is:

Is this because there were just too many elections promises or is it that this was a ticking bom waiting to happen.

Also following the lashing by the Transport Minister and MEC unto Taxi Drivers, I personally think we haven't seen the last of them. We have important events coming up which are potential targets for striking people.

WAIT and SEE or ACT NOW??? what is your view SA????

"Doctors started marching to the Health Department in the Pretoria city centre this morning (Friday). Joburg emergency personnel have also dropped their hoses and medical kits over a wage dispute.

Approximately 2OO medics and fire-fighters have vowed not to return to work until their boss meets them."
